Apparently there aren't many fans of Brazil or North Korea in Long Beach or I might have gone to the wrong location. My plan was to watch the Brazil vs. North Korea match at Kavikas Grill and Bar in Downtown Long Beach. This bar is very popular among locals but it wasn't so popular during the game. When I arrived I was greeted by the hostess and told her I was there to watch the game, she then took me into the dining room/ bar area. I was surprised to see no one sitting at the very long and elegant bar. There was a couple having lunch in the dining area but they weren't paying much attention to the game. I stayed until halftime hoping people would come in, but had no luck.
I walked down to the Auld Dubliner and it was just folks on lunch, not gathered to watch the game. I decided that I would head back to school to see if there was anyone watching the game there. Because of this I missed most of the second half of the game and didn't see Brazil score the 2 goals. When I finally made it to school North Korea had just scored and there wasn't much time left. As soon as it ended people quickly left.
I was able to get one interview with a Mechanical Engineering major, Jared Padilla, here's what he had to say about the way Brazil and North Korea played.
Although I was disappointed that I didn't get as much as I wanted, I've learned my lesson and will make sure fans are gathered before going to a location.
Final score for this match Brazil-2 North Korea-1.
